Onitsuka Tiger was founded in 1949 with the ambition to bring up a sound youth through sport, this mantra followed through the 1950s when Japanese school children in their thousands adopted the company's basketball boots, with the revolutionary suction sole unit, which allowed the players to stop and change direction far quicker than conventional footwear. The most famous of the shoes came in the Mexico Olympics of 1968, a shoe that has remained virtually unchanged to this day, the Mexico 66.
