These early seafarers devised a way of waterproofing their crude canvas smocks by impregnating fabrics with oils and waxes. Developing these principles, using improved waxing techniques to quality cotton canvas bases, Henri Lloyd apply their expertise to make this a favourite British made outwear fabric which captures its own unique character as it ages with wear.

Technology – proven on the world’s oceans. A microporous coating combined with a lightweight, durable face fabric delivers 100% waterproof and windproof protection from the elements. Breathability is provided by the structure of the microporous coating. The porous structure creates holes that are large enough to allow perspiration vapour to escape from the inside of the garment yet is small enough to prevent rain from penetrating from the outside. To further enhance the performance a durable water repellent finish is employed on the face fabric which helps shed surface water, maintaining breathability, and speeding up dry time to keep the wearer dryer and comfortable for longer.

Inspired by the original qualities of the classic naval Melton that traditionally delivered warmth and protection to sailors throughout the oceans, this rich wool yarn has been blended with a small amount of nylon to give a durable and practical fabric for everyday life. In addition, the fabric has been washed and pressed to create a compact finish which is light and comfortable to wear.

Each jacket is weatherproofed in the traditional time-honoured way by using wax, therefore care should be taken as residues may be left when coming into contact with textiles.
